Broadlane Secures Seven-Year Exclusive Contract with Tenet

09/02/2008

DALLAS — Broadlane Inc. announced that Tenet Healthcare Corp. (NYSE: THC) will maintain its exclusive relationship with Broadlane through 2016. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Tenet, headquartered in Dallas, will continue to access Broadlane’s national GPO portfolio of consumable supplies, equipment, pharmaceuticals and purchased services to help manage its approximate $1.5 billion in annual spend for all Tenet hospitals across the United States.

Additionally, Tenet will continue to utilize OnRamp (Broadlane’s client portal) and BroadLink™ (Broadlane’s e-commerce exchange) to streamline purchasing processes.

“Since our relationship with Broadlane began in 1999, we have seen tremendous savings in supply spend for all our hospitals,” said Stephen L. Newman, MD, chief operating officer of Tenet.” More importantly, Broadlane has demonstrated the ability to provide significant supply chain improvements year after year, and we look forward to our continuing relationship with them.”

Broadlane will also continue to provide clinical consulting through its clinical services division, The Preference Group™. The Preference Group will continue to consult on a variety of initiatives including the Orthopedic Management Program and the Medication Use Management (MUM) program. When implemented, The Orthopedic Management Program has consistently delivered double-digit savings to most clients. The Preference Group’s MUM program has helped healthcare organizations achieve savings of up to 5 percent of total pharmacy program spend without compromising patient care.

Since the MUM program was implemented at Tenet hospitals in 2004, it has reduced the inflationary impact of the costs of pharmaceuticals, addressed medication utilization, focused on clinical outcomes to address medication shortages, encouraged standardization of practices and focused on patient safety with regard to medication use.

Broadlane Workforce Management™, a program that addresses nurse staffing shortages with technology and staff fulfillment solutions, also helps clients realize significant cost savings. Tenet will continue to utilize Broadlane Workforce Management to simplify andenhance all aspects of the clinical contract workforce process including: agency contracting, contract workforce staff requisition and fulfillment, contract workforce credential and performance tracking, time tracking and payments. Broadlane’s Web-based vendor management system will allow Tenet to efficiently assess the availability and credentials of staff from all its contracted agencies to ensure the quality of contract nursing and allied health staff working in Tenet hospitals.

“We are excited to move forward as a fully independent company in a continued relationship with Tenet,” said David Ricker, president and chief executive officer, Broadlane. ”We have taken the challenges Tenet has given us to improve processes and reduce operating costs and delivered. We envision a great future with even more successes for Tenet.”
