A worldwide leader in high-definition (HD) technology with more than 20 years’ experience in developing innovative healthcare products, Sony is uniquely qualified to play a leading role in the medical industry’s transition to HD. Sony’s integrated HD solutions, including cameras, printers, monitors and “behind the scenes” technologies, can enhance surgical images to improve workflows — inside and outside the OR. Sony has developed end-to-end, integrated high-definition imaging solutions for healthcare applications, with industry standard connectivity and compatibility with virtually every manufacturer’s camera system. Sony HD video cameras, recorders, displays products, printers, projectors and videoconferencing systems can vastly improve surgical image quality, increase productivity and improve overall communications within a medical practice. Sony can offer an HD solution for virtually every touch point in a surgical scenario, providing surgeons and teaching physicians the means with which to capture, document, communicate and educate. With Sony HD products, medical professionals can: - Capture a surgical procedure in the OR using Sony HD cameras
- View it simultaneously on high-definition, medical monitors
- Record it on a high-definition, surgical capture system equipped with a Blu-ray Disc™ DVD recorder
- Store it in full HD resolution on portable media, or send it to the hospital network
- Reproduce it as hard copy on high-performance, HD printers.
- Edit it using editing software to create a powerful presentation.
- Share it with teaching hospitals or colleagues across the globe via Sony’s HD videoconferencing systems.
By integrating powerful HD images into every phase of the medical workflow from the OR to the teaching auditorium, it’s possible to better educate patients, have accurate, visual reference material for education and training, and make more compelling presentations. Outstanding high-definition video begins with the video camera, which explains why Sony HD camera technology is incorporated into many of today’s HD endoscopic camera systems, and why Sony HD cameras are used to capture open surgery video in the OR. But getting the full advantage from an HD camera system requires maintaining the HD quality throughout the workflow. Documenting the video with HD printers and recorders and viewing that video with HD monitors, videoconferencing and projectors elevates the value of communication and education to an unprecedented new level. Sony HD medical product highlights include: The LMD-2450MD 24-inch (viewable area, measured diagonally) medical-grade flat panel LCD monitor, which delivers 1920 x 1080- pixel HD resolution for full-fidelity reproduction of images captured by state-of-the-art HD surgical cameras. The monitor delivers 10-bit signal processing and Sony Chroma-TRU™ color-balancing technology for a high level of detail, brightness and color accuracy. The LMD-2450MD unit features multi-image capability including side-by-side and picture-in-picture display. The unit, for example, can enable simultaneous viewing of endoscopic and radiology PACS images. The ImageCore™HD Digital Capture System, a new state-of-the-art system that digitally records HD still and video images in full 1920x1080 resolution. Offering connectivity to major manufacturers’ endoscopic camera systems, the ImageCore HD system acts as the imaging control center in the operating room. Ready for mounting on a cart, boom arm or tabletop, the unique one-piece design utilizes a 17-inch (viewable area, measured diagonally) touch screen with a powerful yet simple user interface. Captured images can be sent directly to the hospital network, stored locally in its robust hard drive or saved to a wide variety of portable media formats including Blu-ray Disc, CompactFlash™ media, DVD, CD or any USB storage device. The DICOM compatible system can locally store more than 90 hours of HD video and up to 100,000 still images and can easily convert images and video to Microsoft PowerPoint® presentations. Sony Electronics Inc. plans to introduce its ImageCore HD Digital Capture System later this summer. The UP-55MD/HD printer is the first high-definition medical-grade color video printer to join the Sony product line, making it the perfect accessory for today’s HD imaging systems. Incorporating the same trusted design and functions of the popular UP-55MD, the UP-55MD/HD includes the added capability of accepting 1080i or 720p HD video signals and producing prints with full HD resolution in a widescreen aspect ratio. For added flexibility, the UP-55MD/HD also accommodates SD signals and can be set to automatically detect the signal type (SD, 1080i or 720p). Additionally, the UP-55MD/HD can down-convert the HD signal to SD definition when outputting to a standard-definition video monitor source. High definition. It’s in our DNA.
