Memorial Herman Healthcare System Picks VoiCert To Reduce Denied Claims, Improve Relationships With Payers
10/02/2002
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- When recordkeeping errors cause legitimate healthcare claims to be denied by an insurance company or managed care organization, hospitals can lose tens of thousands of dollars in revenue that goes directly to the bottom line. For this reason and others, Memorial Herman Healthcare System has partnered with The White Stone Group to implement a system called VoiCert to provide automation of managed care transactions at its nine facilities in the Houston area. According to the Healthcare Advisory Board, "For the average hospital, addressing denials and underpayments represents an opportunity of more than three million dollars." Specifically, it means a loss of $3.3 million annually for the average 350-bed hospital with $103 million in revenue and 40 percent managed care penetration. To combat this, the VoiCert system at Memorial Herman automates and records the authorization process for outpatient procedures, inpatient procedures, and hospital stays. With VoiCert, hospitals can dramatically reduce time spent by case management and other authorization personnel in securing authorizations from managed care companies while keeping accurate records to boost reimbursement efficiency through reduction of denied claims and clerical errors. Memorial Herman facilities covered under the arrangement include Memorial Herman Hospital, Memorial Herman Continuing Care Hospital, Memorial Herman Memorial City, Memorial Herman Northwest Hospital, Memorial Herman Southeast Hospital, and Memorial Herman Southwest Hospital, all in Houston. Also included are Memorial Herman The Woodlands Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas; Memorial Herman Fort Bend Hospital in Missouri City, Texas; and Memorial Herman Katy Hospital in Katy, Texas. Founded in 1991, The White Stone Group developed VoiCert in response to demands from customers for a software solution that could improve the accuracy and efficiency for securing precertification approvals. Today, VoiCert is marketed nationwide, with more than 150 hospitals licensed to use the system. Source: PRNewswire
