AAAHC Board Expands With Two New Member Organizations
05/16/2005
WILMETTE, Ill. -- -- Committed to improving the quality of health care within the ambulatory community, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) has announced that the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) have been approved as member organizations. With their admission, they bring the total number of AAAHC member organizations to 17. Representatives from both organizations will now sit on the AAAHC board of directors and play a significant role in shaping the future of ambulatory healthcare accreditation.
"Since the majority of gastroenterology procedures are performed in the ambulatory setting, it is only fitting that ACG and ASGE have joined the Accreditation Association, demonstrating their commitment to patient safety in the ambulatory environment through accreditation. We are delighted to have them as member organizations to add their perspective, and to embrace the association's mission to promote the delivery of high quality healthcare services," says John E. Burke, PhD, executive director of the AAAHC.
The American College of Gastroenterology was founded in 1932 and represents more than 8,000 gastroenterologists from 80 countries. The ACG's primary mission is to assist physicians in providing effective, quality care to gastroenterology patients through continuing medical education, healthcare policy representation, practice management advice, patient advocacy and clinical research.
The American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy has a membership of more than 7,800 domestic and international gastroenterologists, surgeons and other medical specialists who utilize endoscopy as a diagnostic and therapeutic method of treatment for disease of the digestive tract. Founded in 1941, the ASGE is recognized as the premier specialty society dedicated to the education of its physician members in the appropriate use of endoscopic techniques.
