AmSurg® Chooses NextGen® For Nationwide Deployment

02/19/2008

HORSHAM, Pa. -- NextGen Healthcare, a wholly owned subsidiary of Quality Systems, Inc. and a leading provider of ambulatory healthcare and connectivity solutions, announces that AmSurg Corp., an operator of ambulatory surgery centers, has chosen and started to roll-out the integrated NextGen electronic medical records (EMR) and enterprise practice management (EPM) platform. Currently AmSurg owns a majority interest in 170 ambulatory surgery centers across the nation with revenues in excess of $500 million, and has historically added 10 to 20 new centers each year.

AmSurg Corp. develops, acquires and operates ambulatory surgery centers in partnership with physician practice groups throughout the United States. AmSurg-owned centers primarily focus on gastroenterology, ophthalmology, and orthopedic specialty procedures. AmSurg chose the NextGen product suite for its flexibility and robust content; these advanced features will support operational and clinical process improvement at its surgery centers and their affiliated practices. By utilizing NextGen’s structured documentation templates and built-in reporting tools, AmSurg anticipates that physicians will be enabled to participate in burgeoning quality improvement and pay for performance programs.

Using NextGen’s enterprise functionality, AmSurg will be able to deliver the applications to each of its centers through a centrally hosted platform, providing consistency in the delivery of maintenance and upgrades. NextGen’s architecture will also enable the company to provide standardization in product delivery while maintaining appropriate levels of security for each of its individual locations.

“NextGen’s enterprise functionality and roll-up reporting is exactly what we were looking for,” said Eric Thrailkill, vice president and chief information officer. “The system will allow us to improve business performance by centralizing and hosting the delivery of EPM and EMR services to our partner centers. NextGen will become one of our key critical systems and will position us to take advantage of emerging quality improvement initiatives by using NextGen EMR.”

NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, Inc. develops and markets computer-based practice management and electronic medical records systems for medical group practices.
