Sentri7 Helps Hospitals Meet Joint Commission’s Safety Goal 7

06/20/2008

Bellevue, Wash. -- The Joint Commission recently announced its 2009 National Patient Safety Goals. Goal 7, which requires hospitals to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), has been expanded. Sentri7 by Pharmacy OneSource can help hospitals in meeting these new elements of performance.

“As The Joint Commission evolves its focus of areas of patient safety improvement so do our software services,” said Keith Streckenbach, chief strategy officer of Pharmacy OneSource. “Healthcare associated infections are a growing concern nationwide, and Sentri7 is helping hospitals reduce the occurrence of preventable HAIs.”

NPSG.07.03.01 states “The hospital implements a surveillance program for multi-drug resistant organisms,” and “The hospital implements a laboratory-based alert system that identifies new/readmitted/transferred patients with multi-drug resistant organisms.”

Sentri7 is a Web-based surveillance and alert tool which can help clinicians monitor patients for infection prevention intervention. Sentri7 combines a facility’s medication, laboratory and patient information and allows clinicians to write custom rules against the data. Patients matching the rule conditions are posted on a clinician’s dashboard for easy identification and intervention.

"Sentri7 has allowed my institution to restart a robust antimicrobial stewardship program without any additional staffing," said Chris Virgilio, clinical coordinator at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md. “The software is a major component to comply with the various elements of performance of NPSG 7.3.1 -- prevent healthcare associated infections.”
